Journal Submission and Criteria
Journal Submissions
What JGS is
THE JOURNAL OF GLOBAL STUDENT (JGS) is an educational journal. We help writers move from draft → expert review → revision → possible publication. Our standard is strict: Distinction means publishable or near-publishable quality after revision and final checks.
If you feel weak in any area below, you may choose to take a course or work with a mentor before submitting.
Mentorship option
Mentors support authors during planning, drafting, and revision. Mentors are selected from higher-tier academic backgrounds and cover different subject areas. Mentors can guide your development while the journal review process remains structured and standards-based.
When mentorship is useful
If you have a strong area of interest but you are not sure:
- how to shape it into a paper,
- which resources and key literature to use, or
- how to build the right academic mindset and research direction for the topic,
you may submit your topic (and a short draft if you have one). A mentor will review your case, identify what is missing, and provide clear guidance for next steps.
What the mentor provides
- evaluate your topic and current draft,
- recommend key reading and directions, and
- provide two separate pieces of feedback:
- 1. annotated comments on the manuscript, and
- 2. a separate written guidance report.
Important note
Mentorship supports improvement, but the final decision on journal submission and publication remains with the editorial team.
Submission criteria
Before you submit
Your submission should meet these minimum expectations:
- A clear research aim or argument (the reader can see your purpose quickly)
- A logical structure (sections and paragraphs follow a clear line of thinking)
- Appropriate academic language (clear terminology; avoid confusing labels)
- Evidence and sources used responsibly
- Accurate referencing (citations match the reference list)
- Figures and tables are numbered and labelled (if used)
- Permissions are secured for any copyrighted material (images, datasets, etc.)
- Ethics: if your work involves people, sensitive data, or institutions, you must follow the ethical rules of your country and, where appropriate, have ethics approval
Required files
You must upload two Word files:
- Full manuscript (with author details) — .doc or .docx
- Anonymised manuscript (for double-blind review) — .doc or .docx
The anonymised version must not include:
- author names or affiliations
- acknowledgements that reveal identity
- self-citations that identify you (use neutral wording where possible)
What happens after you submit
Step 1 — Editorial review (English & composition)
Your submission is first reviewed by our editorial team. Editorial feedback focuses on:
- English clarity and accuracy (comprehensibility, grammar, tense, register)
- cohesion, structure, paragraphing, and style
- referencing presentation and academic mechanics
- plagiarism
- use of AI
You will receive:
- one annotated manuscript, and
- one separate editorial report.
Who are the editors?
Our editorial team includes Cambridge-certified educators with extensive experience in academic English and writing support (often 20–30+ years).
Step 2 — Expert review (research & subject quality)
If the submission passes editorial screening, it is sent for expert review (double-blind, using the anonymised file). Expert reviewers evaluate:
- overall quality, clarity, structure (scaled ratings)
- terminology and disciplinary accuracy
- logic, reasoning problems, and fallacies (with locations)
- methodology/argumentation (scaled ratings)
- use of sources and citation practice (scaled ratings)
- contribution to knowledge (clear / partial / none, with justification)
- potential inappropriate AI use (judgement + brief explanation)
Expert reviewers provide:
- an annotated manuscript, and
- a separate written report (plus structured form answers).
Who are the expert reviewers?
Expert reviewers are faculty members and experienced researchers from internationally recognised universities. Reviewer levels may include:
- L1: top-tier global institutions
- L2: highly ranked global institutions
- L3: strong research universities worldwide
(Reviewer levels are assigned by the journal.)
Step 3 — Number of reviews depends on the package
Depending on the purchased service, authors receive one, two, three, or more expert reviews. In general, more reviews = stronger triangulation, which helps the editorial team make a more solid decision.
Step 4 — Editorial decision
After reviews, the editorial decision may be:
- Revise and resubmit
- Accepted in principle (subject to final checks)
- Rejected
Important notes
- If accepted, authors still agree to complete all required amendments before final acceptance/publication.
- If rejected, authors may resubmit as a new submission. Additional review work may require a new fee, depending on the package and the new review cycle.
After a successful submission: Certificate of Submission
When a submission is successfully received and recorded in our system, the author receives a Certificate of Submission confirming that the manuscript has entered the JGS process.
